The Gardendale Police Department is actively searching for a 16-year-old girl who may have run away from home this weekend.
Police Chief Mike Walker said the mother of Brittany Michelle Barker called the police station shortly before 2:30 p.m. on Sunday afternoon to report her daughter missing. She was reportedly last seen on Saturday at 6 p.m. leaving her home on Chapel Ridge Drive.
The department then issued an alert through “A Child is Missing,” a national program designed to locate missing juveniles. Walker said a statewide AMBER Alert would not be issued for Barker because her case does not meet the necessary criteria.
Barker is five-feet-four inches tall and weighs 110 pounds. She has brown hair and brown eyes. She is driving a white, 2003 Honda Civic with Alabama tag No. 1A78S07.
Walker said the City of Fultondale is also investigating the disappearance of a juvenile female. However, a police official said Monday afternoon that the teen had been found safe.
Anyone with any information is asked to call the Gardendale Police Department at 631-8787.
