Fred’s in Warrior to sell beer

The Warrior City Council approved a beer license for Fred’s Discount Store at their regular meeting on Monday.

The council had tabled the application from their last meeting on Feb. 7 to determine if granting the beer license would violate a city ordinance that states no liquor or beer licenses can be granted to businesses within 500 feet of a church. The ordinance also states that churches in a commercial building aren’t subject to the rule.

Fred’s Discount Store is located near Family Life Center, but the council, with the advice of city attorney James Ward, determined the church was in a commercial building and granted the license to Fred’s. The store is only allowed to sell beer; no other liquor licenses were granted.
