The city of Gardendale took action this week that will fund a subdivision paving project.

The city council on Monday adopted a resolution that will allow the city to call in a bond to pave streets at the Turnberry Subdivision. 

In June, the council accepted a bid from Dunn Construction for just over $92,000 to finish paving the first phase of the subdivision, which includes Turnberry Parkway, Turnberry Drive and Turnberry Circle. 

Monday’s ordinance to call in the bond will fund the project, according to City Council President Stan Hogeland. 

According to the ordinance, the present state of the streets, curbs, gutters and rights-of-way “may be hazardous to traffic, may cause unregulated storm water run-off, and may erode existing infrastructure, and such conditions will most likely deteriorate if immediate corrective action is not taken.”/p>

In other business, the council:

• voted to cut the grass and assess the charges back to the owners at several properties that violated the city’s weed nuisance ordinance

• authorized Phillips to advertise and solicit bids for the renovation and build-out of the unused and unoccupied areas at the Public Safety Center/p>

• approved an alcohol license at Hacienda, a new restaurant scheduled to open in August next to Walgreens

• hired two part-time seasonal employees to cut grass: Riley Tolbert at the Public Works Department and Colby Williams at the Parks and Recreation Department.
