Weather: And go vote early. Otherwise, you might get rained on, because there’s a 40 percent chance of showers or thunderstorms in the afternoon. Highs will be in the middle 80s. Lows tonight will drop to the upper 60s with a 20 percent chance of rain. Mostly sunny skies on Wednesday with highs near 90.

Election day is here. There’s an assortment of local judgeships and other county offices, a sheriff’s race in Blount County, and parts of Gardendale, Fultondale and Pinson have contested state House races. But all eyes locally are on the GOP race for the Sixth District seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, and the state Senate spot being given up by Gardendale’s Scott Beason, who’s running for the congressional seat. We expect runoffs in both races, with the top two vote-getters advancing. The polls are open until 7 p.m., and we’ll have full coverage at njeffersonnews.com, as well as on Facebook and Twitter, throughout the night.

Sports: Bad day for the Crimson Tide. Alabama softball batters simply could not solve the riddle that was pitcher Hannah Rogers. The Florida hurler shut down the Tide with a 5-0 shutout in the first game of the Women’s College World Series best-of-three championship series. Of course, Bama has seen this happen before – they were defeated in the first game against Oklahoma two years ago, then came back to win the next two and the title. Game 2 starts at 7 p.m. and is on ESPN2. As for Alabama baseball, their season is done as Kennesaw State prevailed by a 4-2 score over the Tide in the regional final Monday morning. Bama scored twice in the top of the fifth, but that was all; the Owls took the lead back in the seventh on an RBI double by Jacob Bruce.
