- Robert Robinson, 31, of Birmingham has been charged with second-degree receiving stolen property, after Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies saw him taking aluminum seating from the old Erwin High School football stadium.
A Birmingham man has been arrested for stealing seats from the old Erwin High School football stadium. But the way that he was caught qualifies for another entry in the Not-So-Bright Criminals File.
A Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputy spotted a man on Sunday afternoon whose truck was parked in the back of E.B. Erwin Elementary School, located on the site of the old Erwin High. A man was standing next to the truck, but when the deputy approached, the man took off into the nearby neighborhood.
The deputy found pieces of aluminum stadium seating both in the truck bed and on the ground nearby. The truck was impounded.
But about a half hour later, the Sheriff’s Office got a call from a man who reported that his truck had been stolen. When deputies went to the address given by the man, he was recognized as the man seen taking the stadium seats.
Robert Robinson, 31, of Birmingham was arrested on charges of second-degree receiving stolen property. He is lodged in the Jefferson County Jail in lieu of $15,000 bond.
