The Alabama Emergency Management Agency, together with the Federal Emergency Management Agency, have announced that disaster unemployment benefits may be available to those who were temporarily out of work because of the severe weather, including floods.

The benefits are also available to those who are self-employed and suffered losses in income from the storms.

Those living or working in Jefferson County have a deadline of June 3 to apply for benefits. Those in Blount County have until June 9.

To apply, go online to labor.alabama.gov, or call 866-234-5382 Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
