It’s Friday, and time for race weekend, either stock cars or horses…
Weather: Terrific. Sunny skies all weekend, with highs in the middle 70s Friday and Saturday, and the lower 80s on Sunday. Lows in the upper 40s to around 50. More of the same when you go back to work on Monday.
Warrior man dies in crash. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office has identified the man killed in Thursday morning’s wreck near Trafford as Isaiah Sanders, 78, of Warrior. Sanders’s SUV ran off Bradford-Trafford Road, ran through a cattle fence and hit a tree. Sanders was dead at the scene. Investigators believe he had a medical emergency.
Sports: Do or die for Wildcats and Blue Devils. Curry defeated top-ranked Hayden 12-6 in the Class 5A Area 12 softball tournament Thursday night, which means the second-ranked Yellow Jackets will move on to the regional tournament. The Cats will now play No. 5 Mortimer Jordan in an elimination game Friday at 2 in Hayden. Elsewhere, Pinson Valley has been eliminated after losing 6-1 to No. 7 Springville at Moody in Class 5A Area 11. In Class 4A, Corner faces an elimination game against Carbon Hill at Oak Grove today, while Gardendale and Locust Fork begin post-season play today as well… Horse racing: California Chrome has been installed as the 5-2 morning-line favorite for Saturday’s Kentucky Derby. He will break from the No. 5 post position. Hoppertunity, who would have been the second choice in the early odds, was scratched by trainer Bob Baffert because of a foot problem.
