- The back of the Kimberly Fire Department was completely destroyed in the storms Monday night.
Good morning. We’ll keep this direct and to the point this morning…
Schools: Jefferson and Blount County Schools are closed today. No word yet on Wednesday’s plans.
Tornado damage: Kimberly and parts of Morris took a hit from a tornado that apparently skipped through those communities. It’s unclear whether there was actually more than one tornado. The Kimberly Fire Department was destroyed, and Kimberly Church of God was very heavily damaged as well. North Jefferson Middle School was also hit, but the extent of damage there is still unclear. The Doss Ferry subdivision and a trailer park also suffered extensive damage. No injuries except for a few cuts and bruises, and no fatalities locally.
Today’s storms: Another round of storms is forecast for today, with a high probability of additional tornadoes. This storm system is expected to arrive around 3 p.m. By now, you know the drill — keep in touch with National Weather Service warnings any way you can. We’ll do our best to pass them along through our website, Facebook and Twitter as they occur.
Sports: Because of the school closings, today’s AHSAA Class 5A soccer playoff matches at Pinson Valley will not be played this evening as scheduled. No word on a make-up time yet.
