Updated: Jefferson, Blount schools closing early due to severe weather threat

Both Jefferson and Blount county school systems have announced that they will dismiss classes at 1 p.m. because of the threat of severe weather.
The JefCoEd decision was made at 9:45 a.m. by Deputy Supt. Yancey Morris, who also announced that after-school activities would be called off. This includes sports contests and practice sessions.
Blount County Schools made their similar announcement at 10:05.
