The Jefferson County School System has released their 2014 list of “Super Scholars,” the top-scoring sophomores taking the PLAN preparatory test, and almost two dozen students from four local high schools are being honored.

The students scored between 25 and 32 on the PLAN Test, which is administered to all sophomores in the school system. A perfect score is 32; with those scoring a 25 in the 97th percentile nationwide, according to JefCoEd spokeswoman Nez Calhoun.

The 23 local students were among the top 100 sophomores honored at a program last week at Birmingham-Southern College.

Generally speaking, students scoring 25 on the PLAN test — which is given by the same company that administers the ACT college entrance exam — will score between 27 and 31 on the ACT in their senior year, out of a possible 36. (It’s also the last year for the PLAN test; the ACT is changing to a new program called ACT Aspire, according to the company’s website.)
