Weather: Sunny all the way. The rain leaves our area at last, as we see the first of several days of sunny skies and warmer temperatures. Today’s high will reach the upper 60s with a chilly nighttime low in the lower 40s. Thursday will be warmer with temps in the middle 70s.

Morris woman is victim of Southside murder. The body that was found Sunday stuffed inside a plastic container is that of Patricia McCain, 61, who lived in Morris. Police found the body inside a box sitting next to a dumpster behind an apartment building on 15th Street South. Police have charged Charles Jordan, 38, of Birmingham with the murder. Investigators believe that Jordan and the victim had some sort of altercation after sleeping together last month, which resulted in McCain’s death. They then think Jordan stuffed her body into the box and kept it in his tub, and sometime later had a friend take it out to the dumpster. Police also say that Jordan and the victim were involved in heavy drug use. Jordan is jailed on $60,000 bond.

But Hunter Crook drove in the winning run in the nightcap for a 5-4 win for the Rockets, who clinched a playoff berth with the victories. Elsewhere in baseball, Corner whipped Dora 10-0 in five innings, and Southeastern beat Victory Christian-Pell City 9-4… Softball: Fifth-ranked Mortimer Jordan had no trouble at Walker in an 11-1 victory Tuesday.
