Gardendale kicks off spring beautification drive

The city of Gardendale and the Gardendale Beautification Commission are kicking off their spring beautification promotion this week, as both groups try to “keep the ‘garden’ in Gardendale.”
The promotion begins with the 63rd Annual North End Council Flower Show, which will be held Thursday and Friday at the Gardendale Civic Center. Hours are 2-7 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday.
The other events include:
• April 7-11: Public Works curbside pickups
• April 12: Community trash pickup, 8:30 a.m. Meet in the Civic Center parking lot. Awards and lunch at noon by the amphitheater stage.
• April 14-18: Help a Neighbor Week. Spruce up a yard for someone who needs help. The best picture wins a $50 gift card to Walmart Garden Center.
• April 19: Creek Clean-up. 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 pm at the Lighthouse on Main Street. Picnic lunch provided at 1.
• April 20-25: For homeowners, “Plant a Magnolia Tree Week.” The most creative picture wins a $50 gift card to Walmart Garden Center. For businesses, “Businesses are Blooming Week.” Place blooming plants by the door or along the street
• April 24-26: Magnolia Festival April 25-26h with a bonus “Carnival Only” night Thursday, April 24. More information at www.magnoliafestival.org
• April 25: Arbor Day. Plant a tree at every school and every park – details posted to the city website and Facebook.
• April 28-April 30: “Roses are for Sweethearts Week” Plant a rose bush, take a picture, and a random drawing will win a free dozen roses delivered to your “sweetheart.” Delivery on Friday, May 2.
