Mark Daniel Sims, a funeral director at Gardendale Ridout's Chapel, was arrested in Shelby County on charges of second-degree rape.

The director of a Gardendale funeral home is out on bail, after being arrested on charges of second-degree rape.

Mark Daniel Sims was arrested on March 19 on the charges, according to the Shelby County sheriff’s Department. Sims was lodged in the Shelby County Jail, but later released on $15,000 bond.

Sims is the managing director of Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel funeral home. The firm declined to comment on the arrest.

The sheriff’s office did not release details because the investigation is ongoing.
