The North Jefferson Women’s Center has named a new director.
Cindy Cannon, who has been a registered nurse for 21 years, will take the reins at the Fultondale-based center. Cannon has been active with the school S.A.F.E. Abstinence programs for three years, is a supporter of the A-21 Campaign against human trafficking, and has worked in youth ministry for more than 20 years.
Cannon has three daughters, and attends the Grants Mill campus of Church of the Highlands.
Cannon will take over for longtime director Nancy Shaffer, who has been nominated to the board of directors. Shaffer will be working with Cannon during a transition period.
The North Jefferson Women’s Center is a pregnancy resource center whose services include free pregnancy testing and ultrasound confirmation, sexually-transmitted disease testing for men and women, post-abortion healing classes, School Character Education Programs that serve 6,500 students, and “Mommy Money” programs whereby young moms and families can earn play money to buy things for their babies while they learn about parenting.
The center recently moved to a new larger facility in Fultondale from Gardendale.
