Obituary: Jessie Ryan Eddy

Jessie Ryan Eddy of Mt. Olive was born in Morgan County on Christmas Day (Dec. 25), 1915 and passed away on Saturday, March 8, 2014, at the age of 98.

She worked as a nurse at University Hospital from 1961 until she retired in 1977. She was a member of Gardendale Church of the Nazarene and loved working in her garden and yard. She loved spending time going to yard sales with her family and keeping her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Lewis Eddy, they were married on December 6, 1937. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Marcus Wilson Ryan and Mary Lou Ryan.

She is survived by her loving family, a son, Walter Van Eddy (Faye); two daughters, Deborah Higgins (Jerry) and Charlotte Santy; brother, T.H. Ryan; her sisters, Catherine Johnson, Faye Williams, and Jonell Taylor; grandchildren, Mike Santy, Sonya Carlin, Sheri Sheffield (John), Jennifer Holcombe (Scott), Jessica Higgins, Janna Higgins, and Shane Higgins (Stephanie); great grandchildren, Brannon Shipp, Hunter  Shipp (Stormy), Will Hartsell, Davis Hartsell, Macy Hartsell, Katelyn Holcombe, Kenley Holcombe, Kileigh Holcombe, Karsyn Holcombe and Sadie Higgins.

A visitation is planned for Tuesday, March 11, at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel from 5 until 7 p.m. Chapel funeral services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. with interment following in Oakwood Memorial Gardens.
