Softball: Hayden 9, Cullman 1

It took a while for Hayden’s bats to warm up. But when they did, they were hot.

Down 1-0 at Cullman after four innings, the Wildcats tied the game in the fifth and then broke the game open with five runs in the sixth, on their way to a 9-1 victory Tuesday.

The top of the order did much of the work, with shortstop Kayla Byrd, catcher Evin Bibb and pitcher Katie Parr each getting two hits. Parr and Bibb each drove in two runs.

Parr held the Bearcats to just five hits while striking out five. Catcher Elloris Dixon drove in the only run with a single in the bottom of the second, and Taiya Ponder was 2-for-3 at the plate for Cullman (4-4).

Hayden (4-0) continues its seaso-opening road trip, as they await the re-opening of theor own ball park on March 13. The Cats take on Class 5A Area 12 foe Curry on Thursday afternoon.
