While Best kept the Blue Devils’ bats quiet, Jordan did themselves no favors defensively, committing seven errors – five of them in the first three innings.

The Jackets jumped out to an early lead, thanks to a bases-loaded passed ball that allowed Dillon McCaleb to score. Levi Green followed with an RBI single, then Robby Harpman capped the inning with a first-pitch line drive down the left-field line for a two-run double.

Corner added a run in the second when Kevin Bryant hit into a fielder’s choice that scored Jackson Tavel from third.

Tavel returned the favor in the third when he grounded out to the pitcher, letting Harpman come home. Devne Daniel also scored on a passed ball.

In the fifth, Tavel smacked a first-pitch lead-off double to right field, and scored on the next pitch when Cole Lepchitz singled to left.

Jordan had a chance to score in the fifth when Taylor Goodwin hit a lead-off double on a liner to left, and then Best put Garrett Davis on with a walk. But the threat ended when Dalton Hudson hit into a double play.

Harpman finished 3-for-4 for the game with two RBIs. Tavel and Chris Huff were each 2-for-4.

Best struck out four Devils and walked two in the win. Jordan starter Dylan Burgett was pulled after three innings, striking out five; just two of his seven runs were earned. Andrew Warren worked four innings in relief, giving up four hits.

Corner (6-5) hosts Pleasant Grove on Wednesday in a battle of two teams that won their first two pool-play games in the tournament. Jordan (9-5, 0-2 in pool play) hosts Pinson Valley, which is also unbeaten in the tournament.
