Baseball: Gardendale 15-10, Shades Valley 1-0

Gardendale dominated Shades Valley in a baseball doubleheader Tuesday, winning 15-1 and 10-0 in games both shortened by the mercy rule.

In the five-inning opening game, Joseph Calvert bated in six runs for the Rockets on a triple and two singles, Hunter Crook scored twice and drove in two with a hit and three walks, and Colten Jay drove in a pair with a hit and a sacrifice.

Galton Moore went all five inning on the mound, giving up just three hits while striking out four.Two of the hits came off the bat of Rashad Louie for the Mounties.

In the nightcap, Jacob Hallmark and Zach Cupps combined for a one-hitter on the mound. Hallmark struck out seven while conceding just one walk in five innings, while Cupps went one inning in relief.

Crook was 2-for-2 with a walk and a sacrifice, scoring three times and batting in two runs. Calvert and Dylan Oliver also had two RBIs each.

Gardendale (7-2) goes to Homewood on Thursday.
