Baseball: Hueytown 7, Corner 6 (8 innings)

Corner looked to have wrapped up an extra-inning win on the road Tuesday, but their defense gave up a two-run error in the bottom of the eighth to give Hueytown a 7-6 comeback win.
The Yellow Jackets had tied the game in the sixth on a run-scoring single by Jackson Tavel. They then took the lead when Levi Green smacked a line-drive triple to left field that brought Devne Daniel home. Green then scored on a sacrifice bunt by Tavel.
But the Golden Gophers won the game as they were down to their last strike. Already having scored one run, Hueytown loaded the bases on consecutive walks by Kevin Bryant, who issued four free passes in the final inning. Then Cardon Mellown sent a fly ball to right field that was misplayed by Tavel, bringing home the tying and winning runs.
Robby Harpman was 2-for-4 for the Jackets. Tavel was 1-for-3 and drove in two runs, and Green scored three times.
Mellown was 2-for-5 and Brandon Conner was 2-for-4 for Hueytown. Casey Crews got the win in relief.
Bryant was tagged with the loss in 1-1/3 innings’ work. He relieved starter Chase Best with one out in the seventh.
Corner (3-3) travels to Hayden on Thursday afternoon.
