An alert neighbor helped Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies catch a would-be burglar.
Deputies were called Wednesday afternoon to a residence on H and F Drive in the Bradford community, just northeast of Pinson. When they arrived, they found that the neighbor had noticed someone had pulled into the home’s driveway, but that the homeowner wasn’t there. After the neighbor called the homeowner to make sure, the neighbor pulled his own vehicle in behind the suspect’s to block its exit.
The suspect emerged from behind the home and jumped into his car, but the neighbor took the keys away and told the suspect to sit on the ground. That’s where he was when deputies arrived; the suspect admitted to breaking into a shed behind the home and taking several power tools.
Deputies arrested 19-year-old Christopher Dewayne Bryant of Oneonta and charged him with second-degree theft of property and third-degree burglary. He was jailed on $10,000 bond.
The homeowner’s tools were returned intact.
