Just as she turned many heads in this state with her softball prowess at Mortimer Jordan, Haylie McCleney is now doing the same nationally as a player at Alabama.
The sophomore center fielder was just named by ESPNW.com, the ESPN-family site that focuses on women’s sports, as a pre-season all-American.
“If you can find a weakness in her game, a bunch of SEC coaches would be happy to take your call,” ESPNW.com said in describing McCleney’s talents as a freshman with the Crimson Tide.
McCleney had an on-base percentage of .538, stole 30 bases while only being caught once, and struck out just 10 times in more than 200 plate appearances in the 2013 season.
At Jordan, McCleney played on two Class 5A state championship teams and two runners-up, and was named Miss Softball by the Alabama Sports Writers Association in her senior year. She was also The North Jefferson News Female Athlete of the Year in 2012.
