Obituary: Dillard C. “Cliff”Allen

Dillard C. “Cliff”Allen, 76, of Columbiana, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, February 3, 2014. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, February 6, 2014 at Bolton Funeral Home with Rev. Joel Miller and Rev. Howard Brasher officiating. Burial will follow in Dargin Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at the Bolton Funeral Home, Columbiana.
Cliff served his country in the United States Army and was honorably discharged. He worked for US Pipe and later CSX railroad where he retired in 1998. As a resident of Columbiana for the past 14 years, Cliff was an active member of the Columbiana Kiwanis Club and served on the Board of Directors of the Shelby County Cattleman’s Association. He was a member of First Baptist Church Shelby.
Cliff never met a stranger and enjoyed sharing stories with everyone he met whether in town or in the many campgrounds he and Pat stayed. He took great joy in baking cakes from scratch for family and friends, flipping burgers for the Shelby County Rodeo and parking cars at the Shelby County Fair. Cliff was known for his legendary banana pudding and making gravy for the brotherhood breakfasts.
Mr. Allen was preceded in death by his wife of 33 years, Patricia T. Allen and his parents, Rufus Calvin and Verlin Camellia Allen. He is survived by his daughter, Vickie Carson (David); son, Randy Allen (Dawn); son, Chris Blythe (Pam); daughter, Melanie East (Robbie); 11 grandchildren; sisters, Rosa Lee Allen, Bea Massey, Kayrene Page, Burnis Smith and a host of other family and friends.
