The Alabama Department of Revenue has given an extension until February 10 to get your new sticker or tag, and to pay the property taxes on your vehicle.

The extension was ordered Thursday by Commissioner Julie Magee, and is effective statewide, even for areas that were not affected by the storm.

The extension also applies to newly-registered vehicles whose deadline fell on Jan. 28 through 30.

Courthouses throughout central and south Alabama have been closed since Tuesday afternoon in most cases, thanks to the winter storm that dumped up to four inches of snow and caused icy roads.

Jefferson County Department of Revenue director Travis Hulsey said that the extension will help smooth out lines for tags throughout February, which he said is historically a busy month for such activity.
