City Council president Stan Hogeland said Wednesday afternoon that there are still travelers being sheltered at the Gardendale Civic Center, and now they need a little help.

Hogeland posted this message on his Facebook page: “There remains about 15 travelers still at the Civic Center. Many are asking how to help. Here’s your opportunity. For dinner we are asking for people to bring soups or chili to the Civic Center. Let’s show ’em real Southern hospitality and cooking.”

The Civic Center was one of a number of municipal facilities, churches and businesses which housed stranded motorists after Tuesday’s surprise snowfall.

Though some roads and parking lots have seen ice melt because of the abundant sunshine today, those same area will freeze again very quickly as the sun goes down thanks to air temperatures well below freezing.Lows tonight are predicted to dip to the middle teens.
