Boys basketball: Pinson Valley 71, Holly Pond 70

It was the bench players that got the job done for Pinson Valley on Saturday, as they edged Holly Pond 71-70 in the consolation bracket final of the WQSB Albertville Civitan Classic boys basketball tournament.
After a close first half, the Broncos went on a brief run to open the third quarter, prompting Indians coach Clint Argo to take out his starters. They brought Pinson Valley back within reach of the lead, and the starting five came back in later to catch Holly Pond at the end. Argo’s reserves scored 24 points overall.
Four Pinson players scored in double digits, including two with double-doubles. Harrison Johnson scored 10 points and grabbing 11 rebounds to go with four steals. Kerry Griffith had 11 points and 10 rebounds, Zach Jackson added 13 points and Austin McKinney had 12.
Colby Adams had a game-high 32 points, Gunter Morris 18 and Austin Smith 12 for Holly Pond.
Pinson Valley (9-7) travels to Walker on Thursday night.
