Gardendale shot out to an early lead and maintained it the rest of the way, as they defeated Mortimer Jordan 49-40 in girls basketball action Monday.

Mallorie Corbin and Claire Lumpkin scored nine points each for the Rockets; Corbin also had four steals.

Megan Snow led all scorers with 13 points for the Blue Devils, and Kaylan Hines added nine.

Gardendale (4-7) hosts Huffman on Friday night in their last game before Christmas break. Jordan (7-6), which has now lost three straight, plays at Oneonta on Tuesday night.
