Weather: Still cold. Sunny skies are forecast today, with highs in the upper 40s and nighttime lows in the middle 20s. Much the same forecast holds for Black Friday, but it will e slightly warmer.

Another ObamaCare delay. The White House announced late Wednesday afternoon – as most people were headed out for the Thanksgiving holiday – that the period for small businesses to sign up online for health insurance plans under the Affordable Care Act has been delayed by a year. The delay is caused by the continuing problems with the healthcare.gov website. The timing of the announcement was not lost on Republican critics of ObamaCare, as House Speaker John Boehner called once again for the act to be repealed in its entirety.

Sports: Defense wins championships. Gardendale turned upits defensive pressure in the second half, scoring the forst 15 points after halftime to win 62-49 over Clay-Chalkville in the Cougars’ Thanksgiving tournament finals Wednesday night. Allen Williams led the Rockets with 20 points, including four 3-point shots, and was named the tournament MVP.

The North Jefferson News is closed for the holiday today, and – barring any major breaking news – our website will not be updated until Friday morning.
