A suspect has been arrested in a Sunday-afternoon shooting of two women in unincorporated Jefferson County just east of Pinson.

The shooting occurred in the 6500 block of Kathy Circle, between Pinson and Clay. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said that a suspect shot and killed one woman and wounded the other. Chief Deputy Randy Christian said that the deceased is a 43-year-old woman, and the injured woman was her sister, age 23.

The suspect, who is reported to be the husband of the deceased, was arrested about a half hour after the shooting on Interstate 59 in Trussville by local police. Christian said the suspect is 54 years old, but would not identify him or the victims until formal charges are processed.
