One-year-old boy killed in crash north of Pinson

A two-vehicle crash north of Pinson has claimed the life of a 1-year-old child.
Ryan Jace Collins died late Thursday night from injuries suffered in the wreck, which happened on Alabama Highway 79 near West Oak Drive. That’s about two and a half miles north of the intersection of 79 and Highway 151.
The crash occurred at about 3 [/m/, according to a statement by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. A Chrysler PT Cruiser was going northbound on 79 when it ran slightly off into the shoulder. The driver over-corrected and swerved into the southbound lane, into the path of an oncoming Jeep Cherokee.
Collins, who was riding in the PT Cruiser, was transported to Children’s of Alabama. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office confirmed that Collins died at 11:25 p/m/
The other occupant of the PT Cruiser and the two occupants of the Jeep Cherokee were also injured and taken to other hospitals. There’s no word on their injuries.
