To stand a chance against ninth-ranked Fultondale, the host Parrish Tornadoes would have had to become literal tornadoes.

Despite the slight chance of severe storms in the weather forecast on Halloween night, Parrish couldn’t muster as much as a slight wind gust. Dressing out just the minimum 11 players, the Tornadoes were no match for the Wildcats, who prevailed by a 54-8 score in the regular-season finale for both teams.

Fultondale scored right off the bat, after holding Parrish to a three-and-out on the opening drive. Brandon Lewis ran 32 yards on the first play from scrimmage for a touchdown, and the rout was on.

The Cats interrupted a Tornado drive a short time later when Derek Pollard intercepted a pass and ran back 60 yards for a score.

It was all smooth sailing for the visitors from that point. Lewis scored again on a 27-yard run, followed by a 5-yard TD run by JeMarcus Collins. Jared Stewart then opened the second quarter with a 19-yard scoring dash.

Later in the first half, Derrick Houston took a Jason Clark pass 43 yards for a touchdown. Ben Chaney wrapped up the half with a 72-yard dash to paydirt that gave the Wildcats a 48-0 lead at halftime.

With the last two quarters reduced to six minutes each by mutual agreement, the Tornadoes finally got on the scoreboard when they took advantage of a Fultondale fumble. Trevian Sherer threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Isaac Robinson.

The Cats had only one possession in the shortened second half, which was capped by another long touchdown run by Chaney, this one for 55 yards. He ended the game with 131 yards on just three carries.

Parrish gained just 32 yards for the night, all on Sherer runs or passes. Fultondale had 220 yards total offense. Lewis ran three times for 62 yards and two touchdowns.

The Wildcats (9-1, 7-1 region) no await the results of Friday’s games for Ranburne and Walter Wellborn to see how a three-way tie for first place in the region standings. Fultondale appears to have the upper hand in the tiebreaker, which hinges on total victories by teams that each of three have defeated in Class 2A or higher.
