It’s Monday all over again…

Weather: Some morning showers. It will be overcast today with a 30 percent chance of rain, mainly before lunchtime, with a high in the lower 70s. Tonight there will be areas of patchy dense fog with lows in the lower 50s. Tuesday will be mostly sunny and warmer, with a high near 80.

Robbery accomplice still at large. The man who is charged with holding up the Radio Shack store in Gardendale on Thursday has been identified. Theron Thompson, 24, was charged with first-degree robbery and kidnapping; he was nabbed shortly after the incident as he tried to flee on foot from the Main Street store, police said. A female suspect, Kyla Joy Lathon, remains at large. She is an 18-year-old black female who is believed to be in metro Atlanta. She was last driving a gold 2003 Ford Taurus with Georgia license plate PNF6523. If you see this vehicle, call 9-1-1 immediately.

Another hat in the ring. The latest entry into the Sixth District congressional race is the most recognizable name so far. State Rep. Paul DeMarco, a lawyer from Homewood, is the third candidate to announce his candidacy for the seat being given up by the retiring Spencer Bachus. DeMarco is the chairman of the Judiciary Committee in the Alabama House of Representatives, and he joins two other declared candidates: Gary Palmer, who heads the conservative Alabama Policy Institute think tank, and Dr. Chad Mathis, a surgeon. Several other GOP figures are expected to make their decision known soon regarding the race, including State Sen. Scott Beason of Gardendale.

Another Beltline lawsuit. The environmental groups Black Warrior Riverkeeper and the Southern Environmental Law Center have filed another suit in an effort to stop the announced freeway that will run through northern Jefferson County. The latest suit, filed on Friday, claims that the Alabama Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration did not follow the law when they sought permits from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for just the initial portion of the road between Highways 75 and 79 north of Pinson, instead of the entire route. An ALDOT spokesman had no comment because the agency had not seen the lawsuit yet.

Sports: Knotted again. The World Series is tied at two games apiece after the Boston Red Sox got a 4-2 victory Sunday night at St. Louis. Johnny Gomes provided the big blow for the Sox with a three-run homer in the sixth inning. The game ended with the Cardinals’ Carlos Beltran at the plate with pinch-runner Kolten Wong on first,only to see Wong picked off by pitcher Koji Uehara. David Ortiz was 3-for-3 for Boston, scoring twice. Game 5 is tonight at Busch Stadium; ironically, Monday Night Football takes place just a few blocks away as the Rams host Seattle – tickets can be had for the football game for as low as five bucks, says ESPN… College football: Ducks pass Seminoles. The BCS rankings are out, and Alabama still sits at the top by a wide margin. But Oregon has moved into the crucial second spot, passing Florida State. Ohio State and Stanford round out the top five, while Missouri drops to ninth after its double-overtime loss to South Carolina, and Auburn moves up to 11th on its lopsided win over Florida Atlantic.
