Gardendale Police have executed a warrant on a suspect in the Thursday armed robbery of a Radio Shack store, and issued another warrant on a female accomplice who remains at large.
Lt. Bryan Lynch said that Theron Omega Thompson, 24, will be transferred to the Jefferson County Jail after being formally charged with first-degree robbery and first-degree kidnapping. He is held in lieu of $60,000 bond on each charge.
Warrants for Kyla Joy Lathon, 18, have been issued for the same charges. Lathon is a black female, and police believe she is in the Atlanta area. She was last seen driving a gold 2003 Ford Taurus with Georgia license number PNF6523, a car that was registered in the suburb of Stone Mountain.
Thompson was caught shortly after the robbery, in which smart phones and other similar electronic devices were taken. The robbery took place at about 11 a.m. at the store, which is located in the Valley Green Shopping Center on Main Street. Lynch said that Thompson fled the scene on foot.
The kidnapping charges stem from the fact that a store clerk was tied up during the robbery, Lynch said.
If you see Lathon, Lynch says you should not approach her, but should call 911 as soon as possible.
