Weather: Rain at last. We’ll get through the daytime hours and most of the evening mostly clear skies, but rain will enter the area later for the first time on more than a week. Highs today will be in the upper 70s, with lows tonight in the lower 60s with a 30 percent chance of rain after midnight. More showers all day on Wednesday and into Thursday.

Done deal? The Reuters news service reported late Monday that negotiations in the Senate could lead to a deal that would extend the nation’s debt ceiling until mid-February, and also restore funding that would let the federal government operate through at least mid-January. But Tea Party conservatives in the House of Representatives are not on board yet, as the proposal reportedly would do little to stop or slow down ObamaCare.

Possible financial fraud at ASU. A forensic audit released Monday by Gov. Robert Bentley’s office revealed financial improprieties at Alabama State University that might result in criminal charges, the Montgomery Advertiser reports. Bentley asked the school’s board to halt its search for a new president while investigates the conduct of past president Joseph Silver, and whether he and others engaged in contracts and other business dealings that illegally benefited those with connections to the school.

Sports: Props to Micah Stephens. The Locust Fork running back scored touchdowns on four consecutive plays in Friday’s 42-22 win by the Hornets over Douglas, and that effort earned him the AHSAA Spotlight Player award for the seventh week of the regular season. It’s the first time in recent memory that a Hornet player has been so honored. Meanwhile, another player in a local game last week was also given statewide honors, but it’s someone local fans saw way too much of — Rashad Louie, the quarterback for Shades Valley who threw for six touchdowns and ran for another against Gardendale, was chosen as the Alabama Sports Writers Association’s Player of the Week. Elsewhere in local prep football, Fultondale’s game this week with Victory Christian of Pell City has been moved up from Friday to Thursday. It will be senior night for the Wildcats, who are very heavy favorites over the Eagles.
