It’s Thursday, and how long can you stand and talk?…

Weather: Now that’s nice. You may see some fog this morning, but that will burn off and give way to mostly sunny skies with a high around 80. Tonight will be partly cloudy with a low in the lower 60s. Sunny and warm on Friday with highs in the lower 80s.

21 hours, 19 minutes. That’s how long Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) held the floor in a speech that seemed like a filibuster, but technically wasn’t because it had to end by Senate rules at noon Eastern Time on Wednesday. But the Tea Party favorite stood that entire time, going through the night as he railed against ObamaCare. In the end, the Senate eventually voted unanimously (Cruz included) for a procedural move to strip language from a House bill that would take funding away from the Affordable Health Care Act. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) was less than impressed with Cruz, calling the speech “a big waste of time.” The issue is not decided yet, as further votes will be taken in the next few days.

Take our inmates – please. The Morris Town Council is considering shipping its jail inmates off to nearby Warrior as a cost-saving move. Police Chief Mike Nazarchyk said such a move would save Morris about $3,000 a month. The council now needs to sort out details regarding dispatchers, who also serve as jailers

Sports: A comeback for the ages. You may not have noticed it, what with college football and all in these parts, but there’s been a heck of an America’s Cup yacht race series going on in San Francisco Bay over the last couple of weeks. And in the biggest comeback in the history of the 162-year-old race – perhaps the biggest comeback in the history of sports, period – Team Oracle USA raced back from an 8-1 deficit on Wednesday to win 9-8 over Emirates Team New Zealand in the best-of-17 series. The multi-hull catamaran zipped along at speeds of more than 50 miles per hour, and after a change in tactician (yachting’s version of an offensive coordinator), the Oracle crew won the last eight races in a row to retain international sports’ oldest trophy. If you did miss the final race, you can see it here on the America’s Cup YouTube channelFootball: We get an early start this week, as Mortimer Jordan travels to John Carroll Catholic tonight. If you can’t make it to Homewood, the game is on My68 television at 7 p.m…. Baseball: Or base-brawl, we should say, as things got heated in the first inning between the Braves and Brewers. When Milwaukee’s Carols Gomez started trash talking after hitting a home run, Atlanta catcher Brian McCann blocked home plate and got into scrum with Gomez. Benches cleared and Gomez was ejected, along with Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman. In the end the Brew Crew won, 4-0.
