Monteo Garrett passed for two touchdowns and ran for another, as Munford defeated homestanding Corner 27-6 in the season opener.
The Lions scored all of their points in the second quarter. Garrett opened with a 6-yard pass to James Jenkins 57 seconds into the period, with Brian Strickland kicking the extra point.
Three minutes later, Garrett struck again with a 45-yard scoring throw to Chris Chapman.
Quendarius Taylor scored with 5:25 left in the first half on a 2-yard run; Strickland’s extra-point kick was blocked by Deshay Averhart.
With 13.5 seconds left before intermission, Garrett finished things off for Munford with a 4-yard touchdown run.
The Yellow Jackets’ only score came in the fourth quarter, as quarterback Chase Best scored on a 1-yard run.
Deshay Averhart ran 13 times for 48 yards, and Taylor Crawford ran 10 times, also for 48 yards, for the Jackets.
Jake Averhart led the defense with a whopping 18 tackles, plus the blocked extra point.
The Lions gained more than twice as many yards as Corner, with 368 yards total offense compared to 156. Garrett was 11-for-19 with one interception for 197 yards and two touchdowns.
Both teams struggled to keep control of the ball, as each fumbled four times; Munford lost possession once, while Corner recovered all four. The Lions were penalized eight times for 75 yards, while the Jackets had just one 5-yard flag.
