- Police investigate a robbery at the Peoples Bank branch of Morris in June 2012, one of two robberies in the past 14 months at this location. The branch is being closed near the end of September.
North Jefferson will be one bank branch smaller later this month.
The Morris branch of Peoples Bank of Alabama is closing Sept. 27, according to a spokesperson with the company.
Also closing on the same day is the Decatur Beltline branch.
The spokeswoman declined to say why the branches are closing, and a message left was not immediately returned.
Peoples Bank is based in Cullman.
“We’re going to hate to lose them. It was a plus for the residents here,” said Morris Mayor Joe Pylant.
The city will not lose financially from the bank closure because it does not receive sales taxes or other revenue from banks.
The city of Morris does have accounts at the bank, but Pylant said employees will start using the Warrior or Gardendale branches.
It is not known if employees of the bank will be transferred to other sites after the closure.
Peoples Bank in Morris has been robbed twice in the past two years; once in July 2012 and again in June 2013. It is not clear whether the robberies played into bank managers’ decision to close the branch. No suspects have been caught in either robbery.
