Good Tuesday morning to you…
Weather: Remember yesterday? Today’s just like it. Today will be sunny and gorgeous with a high in the upper 80s, and lows tonight in the middle 60s. It will warm up a bit on Wednesday with highs reaching 90.
Shooting victim identified. Jerry Elsberry remains in critical but stable condition at UAB Hospital, after suffering gunshots wounds in the Saturday shooting that prompted a lockdown and manhunt in Fultondale’s Glendale neighborhood on Saturday. Police have yet to find the suspect, who was seen walking away from the Spring Street house where the shooting took place; he took off running when the driver of a pickup truck spotted him.
More delays on permitting. The Fultondale City Council voted Monday to extend its moratorium on new building permits in that same neighborhood for six more months. City officials are looking at rezoning some parts to business use. Mayor Jim Lowery said he’d like to see a mixed-use development that would have both residential and business development. Much of the area remains overgrown on lots where houses were destroyed by the April 2011 tornado.
Sports: Let’s talk, Johnny Football. ESPN is reporting that NCAA investigators spent six hours on Sunday interviewing Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel about charges that he took payments for autographs. The Heisman Trophy winner has been accused by autograph dealers of being paid for signing thousands of items… Baseball: The Birmingham Barons fell to Pensacola 6-2 Monday. Dan Black hit his team-leading 16th home run. In the majors, the Braves had the night off.
