Two children were removed Thursday from a southern West Virginia home after a state worker found them handling and eating human waste.
Their parents, 19-year-old Crystal Sidney Perry and 29-year-old Michael Paul Perry, were arrested and charged with child abuse, according to the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff’s deputies said a Child Protective Services worker had arrived at the Perrys’ home to remove their two children, ages 1 and 2. The worker saw the children living in squalid conditions, handling and eating human excrement, and called the sheriff’s office.
When deputies arrived at the home in Ashland – a rural area near the Virginia border – they arrested the parents.
The two were arraigned Thursday and bond was set at $100,000 each.
