AUDIO: DA releases 911 call in college student’s murder

Joyce Smith was driving near the intersection of Country Club and Twilight Beach roads last Friday when she saw Christopher Lane, 22, stagger across the street and collapse into a ditch. The Stephens County district attorney has released Smith’s 911 call, placed at 2:57 p.m.
Smith relays Lane’s dire condition as passersby stop to help and as a 911 dispatcher sends an ambulance and police.
“If you don’t hurry, he’s gone,” Smith tells the dispatcher.

Rescuers were unable to revive the student from Australia, who was jogging near his girlfriend’s home when police say he was shot in the back by teenagers in a passing car.
Yesterday three Duncan teens were arranged in connection with Lane’s murder. Chancey Luna, 16, and James Edwards Jr.,15, are charged with first-degree murder and will be tried as adults. Michael Dewayne Jones, 17, is charged with accessory to murder after the fact and use of a vehicle in the discharge of a weapon.
