Banks collect school supplies for kids in need

At least two banks in north Jefferson County are collecting supplies for children as the start of a new school year draws near.
Aliant Bank at 201 Fieldstown Road is hosting a school supply drive on Aug. 5. Hands on Birmingham will then deliver filled backpacks to children in the community.
Suggested items to donate include:
- Crayons
- pencils
- erasers
- whiteout
- markers
- rulers
- glue (bottles and sticks)
- notebooks
- paper
- scissors
- calculators
- hand sanitizer
- tissues
In Fultondale, individuals can drop off school supplies at IberiaBank, located at 1301 Decatur Hwy, from Monday through Aug. 14.
The effort is part of an “i Gives Back” campaign involving eight Birmingham area locations of IberiaBank.
The supplies collected at the Fultondale branch go to Fultondale Elementary School, where teachers compiled a list of needed items.
The following items are the most needed:
- loose leaf paper
- copy paper
- construction paper
- No. 2 pencils
- Crayons
- index cards
- glue sticks
- colored card stock paper
- dry erase markers
- composition notebooks (not spiral)
- hand sanitizer with pump
- baby wipes
- highlighters
- Sharpies
- scissors
- pencil cases (soft only)
- backpacks (clear or mesh only)
