Beautification board installs banners in Morris

- New banners have been erected honoring Morris' history as a station on the former L&N Railroad mainline between Birmingham and Nashville.
The Morris Beautification Board, in conjunction with the town of Morris, has installed welcome banners throughout the town.
Johnny Ragland, mayor of Warrior, helped with the project by constructing the posts and assisting with installation.
Banners have been placed on U.S. Hwy. 31 at the Morris Memorial Park as well as in the town’s center area.
The black and gold banners’ focal point is a train. The Beautification Board chose the train to reflect the town’s beginnings and growth, which revolved around a stop on the Louisville and Nashville Railroad’s line from Birmingham to Nashville.
The town was incorporated in 1885 and named Morris for Mr. Morris, the first engineer operating “The Accommodation,” the mainline train to Nashville.
The Beautification Board works to improve the community by contributing to the small town beauty and serenity of Morris.
The board’s activities include maintaining Memorial Park, planting and caring for flowers and shrubbery in various areas, and encouraging ownership pride in property by recognizing a Yard of the Month.
Anyone interested in becoming a member of the board is encouraged and invited to attend meetings, which are held the third Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the Morris Community Center.
