Nominate ‘Community Champions’ for NJN

The North Jefferson will publish a Progress Edition in July, where we want to feature “Community Champions.” These are people who go above and beyond to serve their community and help their neighbors. Nominate people you feel go above and beyond in their daily life, by calling 631-8716 or by emailing editor@njeffersonnews.com.

Market to have petting zoo, knife sharpening

Sharitt Petting Farm will be at the Gardendale Farmers Market Thursday, 2-5 p.m., with a petting zoo. Also on Thursday, there will be knife and scissor sharpening available, and a Coke trailer at the market. The farmers market is at the Gardendale Civic Center.

Pie contest July 18

The Gardendale Farmers Market will have a blueberry pie bake-off contest July 18. The winner receives $50. Blueberries must come from Judy Bee’s Honey and Berry farm; pre-register by July 17; professional businesses may not enter. Call 631-2895 to learn more.

Musical fundraiser to benefit arts council

On Tap Sports Cafe will host a concert with the Wildwood Ruminators of Muscle Shoals and other singer songwriters July 13, 6-10 p.m. Tickets are $12 at the door or $10 if ordered online at eventbrite.com.

MJHS registration

Mortimer Jordan High School registration is as follows:

July 30

• 12th grade, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

• 10th grade, 3-6 p.m.

Aug. 1

• 11th grade, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

• 9th grade, 3-6 p.m.

To register, bring a copy of lease, photo ID, two utility bills. Registration packets available in the main office Monday-Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Also, freshman orientation is Aug. 13, 1-4:30 p.m.
