The city of Morris will take part in this year’s “back to school” sales tax holiday.
On Tuesday, the Morris City Council voted to participate in the event, which eliminates city sales taxes from certain items purchased from 12:01 a.m. Aug. 2 through midnight on Aug. 4. The state of Alabama is also withholding taxes from certain items in that time frame.
Exempt items include items of clothing costing $100 or less; computers, software and school computer supplies costing $750 or less for each item; and school supplies, school art supplies and school instructional material costing $50 or less per item.

In other business, the council declared certain property as surplus and approved Police Chief Mike Nazarchyk to attend a class in Florence.
