Weather: Keep the umbrella handy. It won’t be raining all the time for the next few days, but we will see scattered showers and some thunderstorms (though nothing severe) through the weekend. Today there’s a 40 percent chance of rain with highs in the middle 70s. Tonight, there’s a 30 percent chance of rain with a low near 60. A better chance of rain is forecast on Friday.

Police catch burglar. Gardendale Police have arrested a local man after finding numerous guns, tools, golf and fishing equipment from multiple break-ins. Jerry Wayne Preston, 25, is charged so far with first-degree theft of property and third-degree criminal mischief, but police said the investigation continues and more charges may be forthcoming. Preston is lodged in the Jefferson County Jail on $20,300 bond.

More arrests in Boston Marathon bombing. Police have arrested three more suspects whom they accuse of trying to help the main bombing suspects elude justice. Azamat Tazhayakov and Dias Kadyrbayev, both students from Kazakhstan, were already in custody for violations of their student visa; they were accused of destroying evidence that linked Dzhokhar Tsarnaev with the bombing. Robel Phillips was charged with lying to investigators about possible bomb-making materials in Tsarnev’s apartment.

Sports: Corner makes it look easy. The Yellow Jackets allowed just four runs by opponents in three games of the Class 4A Area 8 tournament, and finished off the championship with a 7-0 shutout of Oak Grove. Madison McCormack stole the show in the circle and at the plate, with a solo homer plus a double with two RBIs. She struck out five Tiger batters. Elsewhere, Pinson Valley was eliminated from the post-season in a heartbreaking 3-2 loss to Moody in eight innings Tuesday night. Taylor Wagnon’s double brought home the winning run in the eighth for the Blue Devils. Today, play begins in several area tournaments, with the spotlight attraction being the Class 5A Area 12 event at Mortimer Jordan. Top seed and fifth-ranked Hayden plays Walker at 4:30, followed by No. 6 Jordan and No. 7 Curry, In Class 4A Area 9, Locust Fork takes on St Clair County at 3:30 in the first round at Oneonta… Horse racing: Orb was picked as the morning-line favorite as post positions were drawn for Saturday’s Kentucky Derby. Orb, one of trainer Todd Pletcher’s five entrants, drew the 16th position in the starting gate, and betting on him will start at 7/2 odds. Verrazano will break from the 14th position, and is the second favorite in the full field of 20 at 4/1 odds.
