Gardendale police arrested two people last week on charges of attempted murder, including a domestic incident and a poisoning.
On April 3, officers arrested Jeffrey Lee Morgan, 47, of Gardendale, on charges of attempted murder during a domestic violence incident, with a $55,000 bond.
Lt. Bryan Lynch with the Gardendale Police Department said the charges involve strangulation, which he said is now a felony offense following a law that passed a couple of years ago.
Morgan was already being held in the Gardendale City Jail on other charges, and was transported to the Jefferson County Jail after being charged with attempted murder.
Then on Thursday, Melissa Lauren Bryant, 28, of Altoona, turned herself in at the Jefferson County Jail, where she was also arrested on charges of attempted murder with a $50,000 bond.
Bryant is accused of poisoning a co-worker at a business in Gardendale by putting an over-the-counter eye-care product into the victim’s beverage.
Police have not identified the victim or the place of business.
The victim became very sick and sought medical help, and doctors discovered she had been poisoned, according to Lynch.
The police department has not released a motive in the case.
Both suspects posted bond and were released from jail on Friday, according to the sheriff’s office.
Updated to indicate that both suspects posted bond and were released from jail.
