Police have identified the body of a man found in the Warrior River last month, and have arrested two men on charges of capital murder in connection with the case.
The body of Floyd Thomas Carlee, 54, was discovered March 20 by a man fishing the Warrior River.
Carlee, of McCalla, was reported missing to Bessemer Police by family members on July 29, 2012. He had last been seen on July 28.
Bessemer Police began a missing persons investigation, but were unable to locate him.
On March 20, a man fishing in the Warrior River near Oak Grove in western Jefferson County discovered Carlee’s body and notified the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
Detectives discovered that the victim was robbed and beaten to death at a mobile home park on Fourth Avenue in Bessemer on July 28, 2012.
The body was then placed in the river to cover up the murder, according to the sheriff’s office.
The investigation revealed that Corey Steven Clark, 24, of Bessemer and Christopher Lee Baughn, 28, of Hueytown planned ahead and carried out the assault on the victim at the location he was murdered, according to the sheriff’s office.
Sheriff’s detectives located and arrested Clark on Wednesday and Baughn on Thursday. Both are in the Jefferson County Jail charged with capital murder and are being held under no bond.
The sheriff’s office said other arrests are likely.
