Jack Robbins’ grand slam home run was part of a 10-run third-inning stampede, as Corner easily handled visiting Carbon Hill 11-1 in five innings, in a Class 4A area baseball game Friday.
Robbins’ slam, which came in his second plate appearance of the inning, was the crowning touch on the Yellow Jackets’ rally. It included an RBI single by Josh Walker, plus four other runs that came home on wild pitches (Robbins, in his first time through the inning), errors or bases-loaded walks.
Kerry Smith was 3-for-4 with an RBI; his run-scoring double in the bottom of the fifth ended the game on the 10-run rule. Robbins finished with a 2-for-3 day.
Steven Mitchell’s lead-off triple in the fourth inning set him up to score on a grounder by William Keeton for the Bulldogs’ lone run.
Corner’s Cody Gilbert struck out four and gave up two hits for the win; he faced two batters more than the minimum.
