Softball: No. 7-5A Mortimer Jordan 2-1, Hewitt-Trussville 4-2 (first game, eight innings)

Mortimer Jordan and Hewitt-Trussville split a softball doubleheader Thursday, with the Blue Devils winning the opening game 2-1 in eight innings, and the Huskies taking the nightcap 4-2.

Bailey Murphy pitched both games for Jordan, striking out 11 Huskies batters; she helped her own cause at the plate by going 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored in the opener. Maddie Dorsett was 2-for-4 for Hewitt.

Callie Shields likewise pitched in both contests for the Huskies, though she just went five innings in the second game.

Brittany Collier was 3-for-3 for the Devils, all on singles, and batted in both Jordan runs. Tate Moseley was 2-for-3 and Leigh McAnally 2-for-4 for Hewitt.

Jordan (10-5) travels to fourth-ranked Curry on Tuesday for a crucial Class 5A Area 12 game.
