Baseball: Clay-Chalkville 3, Pinson Valley 2

Tyler Duke’s single to left field in the top of the seventh inning brought home Jordan Rutter from second base with what proved to be the winninng run, as Clay-Chalkville edged Pinson Valley 3-2 in the second game of a split doubleheader Thursday for the Indians.

Kahlil Williams’ ground out with runners on second and third plated the Cougats’ first run in the second. But Pinson answered in the fourth with a run-scoring single by Baker Hodge, then another run scored when Zac Ray’s fly ball to left field was dropped for an error.

Clay tied the game in the sixth when Indian reliever Wyatt Burns gave up a bases-loaded walk.

Hayden Moore went the distance for Clay, allowing only two hits while striking out six. Starter Bailey Chesser worked 5-1/3 innings for Pinson (16-9), with six strikeouts, three hits, a walk and two hit batsmen.

Duke was 2-for-3 with a double to go with his game-winning single.
