- Mortimer Jordan freshman Bailey Murphy struck out 10 of the 12 batters she faced, as she pitched a perfect 4-inning 3-0 win over Gardendale on Friday.
It was only four innings, thanks to a 75-minute time limit in place for Gardendale’s Round Robin Tournament this weekend.
But Mortimer Jordan freshman pitcher was perfect for the four innings she was in the circle, striking out 10 Rocket batters out of the 12 she faced in the Blue Devils’ 3-0 victory Friday.
Only four Jordan fielders even touched a live ball during the game — Murphy, catcher Brittany Collier, left fielder Kayla Mordecai and center fielder Kristen Putnam.
The Rockets got behind early, as Devils’ lead-off hitter Shelby Maze got on board with a single. She moved to second on a Morgan Cantrell bunt, the stole third base. Maze scored on a double by Murphy, whose courtesy runner later came home on a bases-loaded walk.
Jordan got their other run on another bases-loaded walk in the third that scored Alexandra Copeland.
Rocket pitcher Cris Gant struggled with control, allowing eight walks along with three hits.
Tournament play continues Saturday morning at Gardendale.
